Let's Go Krogering: January 13, 2009

I'm so excited! The first post of my new feature, Let's Go Krogering!

Let's start by taking a look at what I purchased at my Kroger this week:

I had to stand on a chair to get the full table shot; apologies for any problems you might have in viewing what I bought.

Everything from the RIGHT of the egg carton, I bought *with* a coupon (and most of it was already on sale, too); everything on the LEFT of the egg carton, I bought *without* a coupon (but most of it was also on sale, too...are you seeing a pattern??).

What I purchased *with* coupons:

(2) Special K cereal bars, $2.67 ea
$1.00/2, 1/4 RP insert

(4) NutriGrain bars, $2.67 ea
$1.00/2, (used 2 coupons), 1/11 SS insert

(2) Gallons of milk
FREE with this week's Kelloggs deal {buy (3) Kellogg's cereal or bars, get (1) gallon Kroger brand milk free}

(2) Green Giant boxed frozen veggies, $1.00 ea
$0.50/2, 1/4 SS insert

(2) Cottonelle 4 pk, $0.99 ea
$0.50/2, 1/11 SS insert

(1) Jollytime Microwave Popcorn, $2.58
$1.00/1 printable here

(1) Yoplait Kids Yogurt 6 pk, $2.38
$0.35/1, 1/4 GM insert

(2) Kraft Mac-n-Cheese Crackers, $3.09
B1G1Free, 1/11 SS insert

(1) Little Debbie 100 Calorie Snack Cakes, $1.79
$0.55/1 printable here

(1) Activia Yogurt 4pk, $2.00
$1.00/1, 1/11 SS insert

(1) Softsoap liquid hand soap, $1.00
$0.35/1, 1/4 SS insert

(2) Campbell's Soup to Go, $1.99
$0.75/2, 1/11 SS insert

(4) Red Gold Diced Tomatoes, $0.75 ea
$1.25/4 (Kroger Loyalty Coupon sent do me via US Mail)

(6) Del Monte Fresh Fruit Cups, $1.00 ea
B1G1Free (used 1), Vocalpoint mailer
$1.00/2 (used 2), Vocalpoint mailer (same as above)

(2) Horizon Organic Milk singles, $1.00 ea
$0.25/1 (used 2), 1/11 SS insert

Remember, Kroger doubles coupons up to $1.00 ($0.50 and up doubles to a cap of $1.00) and Kroger has UNLIMITED double coupons.

Now, let's move on to what I purchased on sale *without* coupons (to the LEFT of the egg carton):

Kroger Sour Cream 16 oz, $1.00
Kroger Wheat Tortillas, $1.39
Redi-Serve Chicken Nuggets, $1.00
Kroger Ice Cream {strawberry -- if it were chocolate, I'd eat it!), $1.99
Kroger Enchilada Sauce, $0.89
Honeysuckle Ground Turkey, 1 lb, $2.50
Kroger Round Roast, 2.3 lbs, $6.79
Pork Steaks (B1G1Free), $4.73/2
(2) Kroger Cheese, $2.19
(2) Dole Salad (reduced for quick sale), $0.99
Gold Star chili mix, $1.03
Kroger Au Jus gravy, $0.50
Kahn Hot Dogs (B1G1Free), $3.39/2
Kroger Kidney Beans, $0.57
Gala apples (10), 4/$1.00=$2.50
Kroger baby carrots, $1.99
Kroger Eggs, XL, $1.25
Driscoll Strawberries, $2.00
Driscoll Blueberries, $1.50
Doritos (room for a little junk!), $1.97
Bananas, 2.42 lbs @$0.38/lb = $0.92

And, finally, here's what I purchased with *no* sales and *no* coupons:

Tyson Chicken Drumsticks, 2.5 lbs, $2.59
Kroger Valu Cream of Mushroom Soup, $0.63
Kroger Mac-n-Cheese, $0.50
Sweet Potatoes, 2.25 lbs @$0.79/lb = $1.79
Grapefruit, 5 lbs, $1.98

You can see just how few items (5) I purchased at full *retail* price; peeps, paying full retail for anything in life is just giving away your hard earned money and that goes for grocery shopping, too. With a little research and planning, you really can lower your net cost at the grocery store.

My total for this trip: $85.15

My savings for this trip: $65.14, or 43%.

For the full list of coupon matchups for this week's sale at Kroger, go visit my friend Andrea and read her Kroger deals post right here.

And, just because I love to save you time, click here for the full grocery list of items needed for my menu plan this week. It's a GoogleDoc and you should easily be able to print it right from your browser.

I *heart* going Krogering! If you do, too, come back next Tuesday, 01/20/09, to see what I find next week and to link up your own Kroger deals!

  1. Your full price for 5 lb of grapefruit is $1.98? Here the sale price is $3.99.

  2. Jennifer: Yup; the 5 lbs of grapefruit were already bagged and labeled with the red and white "Kroger Value" label. I don't know how we lucked into them here in SW Ohio, but I was happy to find them!
