Super Saving Saturday: The Bust The Budget Edition

It's the first Saturday in May and I have a stack of receipts to log for the last couple of weeks of April.

Without even tallying them up, I know I went over my $400 target budget for April; between hosting Easter and two other weekend with family events here at our house, I was in and out of Kroger all month.

However, I did decide to build some time-savings into my menu plan this past week. I cooked doubled up meals all week and stored the extra dinners in my freezer for next week. I'm already looking forward to not having to worry about what's for dinner every night!

Here's my Kroger trip from this week:

Spent: $118.11
Saved: $68.33 or 36%

The menu plan I used this week is right here; all the items that are bolded are items I cooked as doubled amounts (two meals) and froze.

Remember, you can link up your best deals from your Kroger or Kroger-affiliated store this week at my weekly Let's Go Krogering! link up post here. Share your finds!

I also made a quick trip to Walgreens late today before the ad changed; I had $7 in Register Rewards to use as well as some money left on an RX transfer gift card.

Walgreens, 5/2/09:

Spent: $1.06 (after MFR Q on Suave, RRs and Gift Card)
Saved: $22.57
Earned: $5.00 in new RRs ($2.00 on three Suave; $3.00 on three Pepsi)

I'm bummed that Walgreens has discontinued their Easy Saver Rebate Catalog program but it's nice to see that they'll still be offering lots of great Register Rewards each week.

Weekly Totals:

Spent: $119.17
Saved: $90.90, or 43%

How did you do this week?
