What I Saved at the Stores {Week 23 of 2010}

Each Saturday, I detail what I spent and saved at the stores; this weekly post is my way of keeping myself on track for my weekly budget goals in 2010.

I hope that by sharing what I saved, you'll be inspired to keep couponing week in and week out.  Over time, your stockpile of high-use items for your family will grow and your total weekly bill will keep coming down, down, down!

Week 23 (June 7-13)

Summer started (meaning school ended!) this week for my kiddos; I'll be couponing with a crowd for the next few months. No worries, though - all three of my kiddos are hip to the power of the mighty coupon. My oldest (almost 9) is really starting to "get" it - coupons mean a cart full of good stuff for just a little bit of cash. And all three love to "discover" coupons in the store in the blinkie machines!

It's not easy shopping with kids (there are still  times when it's easier and less stressful to just go by myself) but there are so many real life lessons I find myself sharing with my bunch during a simple grocery trip: money, budgeting, meal planning, dealing with the public, courtesy, and oddball moments of geography (where does this fruit come from?).

And then there's the toughest and most powerful lesson of all: the word no.  You can't buy everything you see on a whim just because you want it (and this lesson goes for me as well as for them!).

While I'm no where near perfect (please note that I anticipate spending many, many moments in the checkout line this summer sighing with relief that the trip is OVER!), I think the chance to teach my kids by example is important. I want them to enter adulthood with a full toolbox of money smart skills. I imagine many of you out there feel the same way about your job as parents, too.  8-)

Now, onto my cuh-razy deals this week (the deals were EVER so good!):

Kroger, 6/7

Spent: $22.36
Saved: $26.04 (54%)

Read about the coupons I used at my weekly Let's Go Krogering! post.

Aldi, 6/7

Walgreens 6/8

Saved: $12.60 (83%)
Earned: $5 RRs

CVS 6/8
(I lucked out and got one of the $5/$15 coupons on my receipt!
You know I went home and planned a second trip to CVS!)

Spent: $2.62 + $4 ECBs
Saved: $11.02 (81%)
Earned: $5 ECBs

CVS 6/9
(Putting the $5/$15 CVS coupon to work on some of the PG deals.
I had high value coupons from the Right at Home mailer that matched up nicely!)

Spent: $1.30 + $5.00 ECBs
Saved: $25.93 (95%)
Earned: $4.00 ECBs

Target 6/8

Spent: $8.46
Saved: $23.54 (74%)
(You can see the coupon matchups for these deals here.)

Weekly Totals (Week 23):
Spent: $88.12
Saved: $99.13 (53%)

My weekly budget target is $80/week; I'm over this week a bit but I was under last week a bit as well.  I was able to stock up on some much needed cleaning items and household items this week for very little out of pocket which saves me more money over the long term.   I'm still hoping to come in at or under budget for June.  8-)

If you're new to the fabulous world of keeping more of your hard earned money in your pockets by strategic couponing and drugstore shopping, I encourage you to read these posts to help you get started.
