Remke/Biggs {Mason, OH} Super Double Coupon Event 10/29 | My 75% Savings + Observations

Remke/Biggs Double Coupon Event (Mason, OH) 10/29

Spent: $15.55
Saved: $44.36 (75%)

I headed down I-71 to the Remke/Biggs on Mason-Montgomery Rd just after dropping my older two off at school around 8:30 am.  Since I'm just up the road a bit (in Lebanon - love love LOVE it here), I was in the store walking the aisles just before 9:00 am.

Since this sale event began at 6:00 am, many of the hottest deals were already out of stock. Oh well!

I chatted with some of the employees that I met as I shopped (all who were just wonderful and friendly and thrilled to see us couponistas rockin' the deals); from what they told me, it sounded like there were lots of shoppers who were at the doors at 6:00 am with their coupons in hand.

A few other observations:

:: All the couponers I saw (and it was mostly serious couponers in the store with me judging by the amount of binders, filers, and coupon systems I saw in the shopping carts) were super nice.  I saw and heard a lot of helpful conversations, sharing of coupons, and good-natured commiserating over the missed deals {oh wait - that last one was me.  ;-) }  Thumbs up to my fellow couponistas for their generous spirits and kindness to one another today!

:: I've shopped other double coupon events at Biggs (most notably this one last fall where I saved 83%; that one was a triple/double coupon event at Biggs in Mason, OH).  Today, it seemed like there were slightly fewer staffers re-stocking hot items than last years event.  I don't know if this is a staffing issue (ie: not having enough people) or a stock issue (ie: not having enough extra stock) but that's just my personal observation

:: The cashiers at the registers did a superb job (imho) of keeping the lines moving, opening new lines, and scanning each and every coupon quickly.  I was through my line and out the door very quickly.  Thumbs up to Remke/Biggs for awesome customer service at the front end of the store!

:: The register system is set to automatically adjust the value of your doubled coupon down to the price of the item which means you will not get any overage on your coupons during this event.  Which was ok with me - the deals were steller enough without overage.  ;-)

FYI, here's the coupons I used:

  1. I was there shortly after 8am

I found the employees (both stockers and cashiers) *extremely* nice and helpful :)

I also heard from employees that the store was packed at 6am. At the time I was there it was mostly couponers as well....I chatted with a few people and we helped each other find things.

I found most things so I am happy....

In general I think the prices in the store are higher and the selection is less....many coupons I had were for items they didn't carry.

I definitely wouldn't shop there as my "main" store...but will shop the sales/deals.

  2. I didn't make it until around 5:00 and by then most of the items that I was interested in were gone. I heard that the bandaids, toothbrushes, rolls and bagel bites were gone fast. That's okay though. I'll take a savings of 82%. I couldn't make it to the last event, but LOVE to hit these sales up.

I do agree that the cashiers were very friendly and quick. One of them even voided a coupon and then rescanned it because it didn't ring the double up for it. I also had that happen to me with a $1 coupon for the powerade pack. Way to go Biggs/Remke! I did notice some stock being set up while there, so I'm not sure if another truck was coming in later in the day or what happened but they were on top of it.

Agree, that this would not be my main store for shopping as well, but will always try to get there for doubles :)
