Let's Go Krogering! | Week of March 28, 2011 {Kroger Crazy 8 Sale...meh!}

Wondering what's the deal with my weekly Let's Go Krogering! (LGK!) posts?
 Click here for more information.

This week, Kroger is running a Crazy 8 Sale Event - the prices of the items featured in this week's sale ad all end in an 8. While at first glance the sale prices seem decent, a closer look (and a little comparing of this week's ad with previous ads) shows that the prices are just...meh.

 For instance, last week Kroger had DiGiorno pizzas on sale for $4.77 ea. This week, they're part of the Crazy 8 sale for $5.48, a difference of $0.71 (in Kroger's favor).

While I don't keep a price book, I do keep track of notable sale prices in my weekly savings google spreadsheet (courtesy of Savings Lifestyle) as well as the prices of items I buy most frequently (milk, bread, cheese, cereal, frozen veggies, pasta, meats, etc). I also just have a good memory for numbers and I do usually save a few weeks worth of Kroger ads as well.

Using all of these sources help me to spot trends in pricing (either up or down) and identify what is really a "good" deal - even with coupons.

  1. Glad it's not just me. I looked at the ad this week and didn't write down much on my list. I guess we'll have to wait until next week for more great deals.

  2. Anon: Yes, this week is rather dull at Kroger. I wouldn't be surprised to see the "Crazy 8" sale repeat again next week.

    However, starting on Monday 4/11, we'll be two weeks from Easter, so I'm hoping we'll see some good deals on eggs, baking items, candy, party food, etc. Fingers crossed!
