*(I am reposting this post because it was wiped out during yesterday's Blogger/Google debacle; thankfully, Blogger is now operational again and I had a copy of this post to use. Thanks for your patience!)*
I am SO happy to share with you that as of early this morning (05/13/11), Couponing for Community 2011 has ALREADY reached the initial goal of 10,000 items donated by couponers around the country!
And to think, Stamp Out Hunger is still two days away!
Last year, over 80 bloggers participated in C4C 2010; I shared a picture of my own donation for Stamp out Hunger 2010 in this post.
This year, 124 bloggers (so far!) are committed to participating in C4C 2011 (yours truly included). Plus there have been many other couponers participating as well - the current fan count on the C4C 2011 Facebook page is 3,099! (Go on over and like 'em already if you haven't yet!)
I finally had a few minutes this afternoon to gather up my non-perishable food items to donate for Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 14, 2011. I also went through my "drugstore" items (I have a shelf in my linen closet where I store my extras) and gathered up a bunch of those to donate to my local food pantry.
Yes, while it is a food pantry because their primary mission is helping people facing a food crisis, my local food pantry is always in need of personal care items as well because their clients don't always have the resources for basics like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, shampoo, etc. Every bit helps.
Take a look at what I'll be donating (49 items!) on Saturday, May 14, to Stamp Out Hunger and today to my local food pantry (our church keeps a collection basket in the foyer making it super easy for me to donate my extras):
One more item I realized I could easily donate was my small stash of laundry detergent samples. I receive so many freebies of these over the course of a year and I seriously never use them because I'm always able to find stockpile deals on laundry detergent at Kroger. If you have laundry or personal care samples lurking in your stockpile as well, consider donating them: even simple necessities like toiletries and laundry detergent quickly become luxuries to those facing a food crisis.
Alrighty, if you haven't already gathered your extra goodies to donate, here's your TO DO list for today and tomorrow:
:: Like Couponing for Community on Facebook.
:: Like Stamp Out Hunger on Facebook.
:: Read the full details about Couponing for Community (C4C) 2011 right >here.
:: If you're a blogger who's all in for giving back to your community by using your mad couponista skillz for good, post about the upcoming C4C 2011 on your site and then add your post link to the Couponing for Community Facebook page.
:: Check your personal stockpile for non-perishable items (both food and personal care) and pull the ones you'll be planning to give. Make sure you keep a tally of exactly how many items you'll donate the week of May 8-14 so you can add your number to the total tally at the Couponing for Community Facebook page.
:: Check my list of FREE with Q's items for this week if you'll be heading out to the stores; be sure to grab a few of those free with coupon deals to donate.
I'm so excited to be a part of Couponing for Community once again this year - many thanks to Kaley at Cha-Ching on a Shoestring for all of her hard work behind the scenes to make this happen once again.
Let's give BIG!!
