My Kroger Trip, Tuesday, July 5, 2011

This week at Kroger features a repeat of the Daytona Mega Event sale: buy 10 participating items, get $3.00 off at checkout.  While this is not my *fave* flavor of Kroger's Mega Sales, there are still some good deals to be had.

I went Krogering on Monday evening without my kiddos and it.was.so.peaceful!  I love my kids but there is just something to be said about making the grocery run by yourself if you can find a way to do so - whether your kiddos are tiny or school aged.  I was able to move quickly, get my list, and checkout all without dealing with sibling squabbles, in-store racing (my kids see every turn down a new aisle as a chance to be FIRST! GO! WIN! *sigh*), and ten minutes of playing loudly browsing in the toy section.

I realized when I reached the store that the new ad week didn't start until Tuesday due to the long holiday weekend; I made a super-fast run through late Tuesday morning (with my kids who were happy to move quickly with the prospect of a free cookie for their efforts) to pick up the deals on cheese and eggs.

Note: Both Kraft Cheese (shreds, bar, cracker cuts) and Sargento Cheese (shreds only) are on sale for $1.99 this week so be sure to check through your Kroger catalinas, Kroger mailer coupons, and any tearpads, blinkies, or peelies you might have for matching coupons.

I also made a stop at Aldi on Sunday afternoon for the majority of our produce ($1.29 strawberries, $0.69 canteloupe, $0.25 ea plums, nectarines, and peaches!), milk, eggs, and some other pantry essentials as well as some marked down boneless skinless chicken breasts (ended up being about $1.60/lb)  I spent about $50 at Aldi bringing my total for the week to just over $100 once again.  Seems like that's my new weekly total for the summer and I'm ok with that.

We're eating TONS of fresh fruit and salads because they're in season and priced low accordingly; once those great prices on summer fruit and veggies are gone, I have a feeling my budget will creep down again in kind.
